You Want Change—Let’s Get to Work

I can help.

I help disconnected couples reconnect. I do so using an evidence-based therapeutic model called, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy

I do my best work with couples who are ready to engage in an active, here-and-now process of therapy. I work collaboratively with you in session—helping you stay present, make sense of what you're feeling, and process it together in real time.

I’m supportive, compassionate, but also direct. My job is to uncover and help you both understand the emotions underneath all the anger and the fighting.

You can enjoy being together again.

You don’t have to keep pretending with your friends.

When you feel safe and secure in your relationship you’re free to dream about your future!

 Credentials & Approach to Therapy

 - Masters of Arts (MA) in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary

- Emotionally Focused Couples Therapeutic Approach

- Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT)

- Prepare / Enrich Certified Counselor

You can expect an active therapy session with me—one where you bring your frustrations and disappointments, and I help you get to the heart of what’s really going on. My approach, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), is experiential, which means we work with the emotions that come up in the room—both the hard ones and the hopeful ones—as they arise.

We don’t focus on “homework.” Instead, we practice a new way of relating right there in the session.

In the first few sessions, we’ll identify your negative relational cycle—the pattern that keeps you stuck. I’ll also meet with each of you individually to understand your personal and relational history leading up to the present.

Understanding how you’re getting stuck is the first step toward real change—and real hope. I get it: picking up the phone or clicking "send" on that first email can feel like a big step. But you can do hard things.

I'm here to help. Let’s start a new chapter in your relationship—together. Want to Learn More About Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)?

Testimonials

“You only have to sit with Scotty for a few moments to get how genuine and caring he is. I am honored to have him as a colleague and friend. If you see him for counseling, I know you will be in good hands.”

- Denise Kirsopp, LMHC, Rapid Resolution Therapy® Specialist

“My fiancé and I wanted to do some premarital counseling to learn more about each other and the intricacies of our personalities. Scotty Alderman Counseling worked through a couples assessment with us called Prepare and Enrich. This experience helped us understand the other in a completely new and compassionate way. We learned areas in which we excel as a couple and areas in which we need to improve. Scotty was very encouraging to both of us during this process. He was lighthearted with us when it was needed, yet helped us dig deeper when we needed to do so. We highly recommend Alderman Counseling.”

- Kaitlyn B.

“We had a very good experience with Scotty. We did Pre-Engagement counseling, which is a bit out of the norm, but it was just what we needed to take the next step in our relationship.”
